Beginners of Snapchat always find it difficult to figure things around the platform. This mainly is due to the absence of an easy search option in its interface. Many users find it difficult to find their way around, and end up tapping/swiping through a zillion times before they end up at the right one! That’s going to change, and the latest update from the social media platform is a brand new universal search bar that can be accessed from anywhere in the app and not just from the home screen.
The search bar can be found in the top of the app. This makes it easier to switch between the camera, chat threads, and Stories – the search will still be visible each time. If you are following someone, you can now tap the result to privately message the person. A circle will also appear to the left side of the result if the user has a Story in his feed. The search bar also makes it easier to search for usernames, tapping on which will open a new chat window with the user or the user’s profile. Navigation to one’s own profile by tapping your Bitmoji is also possible with the new update. Apart from all of these, it is also now possible to find daily editions of Discover channels, and profiles of your “favorites” (most frequently contacted) users. The updated Discover publisher entry provides a description of the Discover publishers and displays a button to subscribe to their channel.
The new search bar not only improves the quality of user experience in the platform, it also helps Snapchat up its advertising capabilities. Advertisers can now place their sponsored ads in the search interface or the search results. The company did not comment on whether or not ads were coming to search.
